Graphic design documentary

The Department of Graphic Design will screen "Helvetica," a feature-length documentary about typography, graphic design and global visual culture, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in the Graphic Design Atrium, Green Hall, 1156 Chapel St.

Directed by Gary Hustwit, "Helvetica" looks at the proliferation of one typeface as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them. It includes discussions with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.

The screening is free and open to the public.
