University names its first director of
sustainable transportation systems

Holly Parker, a longtime advocate and manager of alternative transportation programs, has been named as Yale's first director of sustainable transportation systems.

Parker, who comes to Yale from Harvard University, will help identify new ways for University staff, faculty and students to engage in more environmentally friendly modes of transportation. She will work with the campus community and regional partners to increase the availability and use of alternative modes of transportation, and develop data-driven transit supply-and-demand forecasts to help achieve University-wide greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Parker previously managed Harvard's sustainable transportation program for six years, with responsibility for the development, marketing and implementation of programs that encouraged Harvard employees to use alternatives to drive-alone commuting. Parker led projects that resulted in an online transit pass ordering system and a solar-powered bicycle parking facility on campus. Under her guidance, Harvard improved its transportation choices, including outfitting shuttles with bike racks, increasing car-share membership, introducing a new rideshare-matching system customized to the university's needs, and establishing a bicycle program. Her prior experience includes working for the Commuter Solutions Program at Lane Transit District in Eugene, Oregon, and as a senior transportation coordinator for TransAction Associates in Waltham, Massachusetts.

At Yale, Parker will report to Director of Support Services Don Relihan; she will also work closely with University Planning, the Office of Sustainability and the Parking & Transit staff.
