Archer named one of Glamour's
'Top 10 College Women'

Yale junior Tina Jeon, a champion archer, has been named one of Glamour magazine's "Top 10 College Women" of 2007 in its June issue.

Jeon, who is majoring in history at Yale, holds both the 2007 Eastern Region Collegiate and Eastern Region Senior Olympic titles. She is hoping to make the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

As a Glamour "Top 10 College Women" selection, Jeon was photographed by Glamour photographers during a visit to New York City in March, and she and the other winners of the magazine's honor will be feted at a gala event in June. In addition to saluting this year's winners, Glamour magazine is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the competition by featuring honorees from previous years, who include noted homemaking advocate and businesswoman Martha Stewart, selected in 1961. Stewart will speak to this year's winners at the gala.

In its tribute to Jeon, Glamour quotes the Yale student on what keeps her motivated: "When my parents [who came to the United States from South Korea in 1978] couldn't afford Christmas or birthday presents, they told me, 'Your education is your gift,'" Jeon recounts. "Nothing is ever guaranteed to me, but I always find ways to reach my goals."

Jeon hails from Enfield, Connecticut. She was an East Coast champion figure skater before she took up archery as a teenager, winning first place in a division for girls under the age of 15 in a national competition. She is currently one of the nation's top female archers. As a freshman, she lobbied to make archery a club sport at Yale.

Jeon is considering law school and hopes eventually to work at the United Nations as an advocate for orphaned and abused children.

A profile of Jeon appeared in the March 6, 2005 issue of the Yale Bulletin & Calendar. It can be found online at www.yale.edu/opa/v33.n28/story3.html.
