Lamar Center sponsors book discussion by historian

The Howard R. Lamar Center for the Study of Frontiers and Borders will sponsor a book discussion by John D.W. Guice, professor of history emeritus at the University of Southern Mississippi, on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m.

Guice will discuss his book, "By His Own Hand? The Mysterious Death of Meriwether Lewis." Wine and other refreshments will be served.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at Labyrinth Books, 290 York St. For more information, call (203) 787-2848.


DVD created to train law enforcement officials wins Bronze Telly Award

A 2006 Bronze Telly Award was recently presented to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network for its development of a law enforcement training DVD titled "Cops, Kids & Domestic Violence: Protecting Our Future." The DVD was developed in collaboration with The National Center for Children Exposed to Violence (NCCEV) at the Child Study Center.

The DVD provides a 20-minute overview for law enforcement professionals on how to effectively help children at the scene of a domestic violence call.
