Memorial service for Eugene Waith
There will be service of remembrance in celebration of the life of the late
Eugene M. Waith, the Douglas Tracy Smith Professor Emeritus of English,
on Sunday, Jan. 13.
The service will take place at 2 p.m. in the Pierson College Master’s
House, 231 Park St. Friends and colleagues are invited to the service and to
the reception that follows.
Waith, a leading scholar of Shakespeare and English Renaissance drama, died
on Oct. 25 at the age of 94. A member of the Yale faculty for over four decades,
he was known for his work as a critic, theater historian and textual scholar.
He wrote numerous books and articles dealing with English and European drama
from the Middle Ages to the present.
