School of Public Health creates
new deanship in academic affairs

Dr. Robert Dubrow, a recognized leader in public health education, has been appointed as associate dean for academic affairs at the School of Public Health at the School of Medicine.

In this newly created position, Dubrow will oversee and coordinate the educational curriculum, chair the Education Committee and help develop an Office of Public Health Practice to offer M.P.H. students optimal practice experience and internships around the world.

Dubrow has been actively engaged in public health research and education for almost three decades. He has worked at the School of Public Health since 1987 and will continue to hold the positions of associate professor in the Division of Chronic Disease Epidemiology and director of the Office of International Training at Yale’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS. He received the Yale School of Public Health Teaching Award from the graduating classes of 2002 and 2007.

In announcing Dubrow’s appointment, Paul Cleary, dean of the School of Public Health, said, “Dr. Dubrow has made significant contributions to our school as a skilled educator and researcher. His strong commitment to students, combined with his extensive published research on HIV/AIDS prevention and cancer epidemiology and prevention, will help us continue to develop and provide exceptional educational programs and experiences for M.P.H., M.S. and Ph.D. students.”

Founded by Charles-Edward Amory Winslow in 1915, Yale’s public health program is one of the oldest in the country. It has played a pivotal role in defining and addressing public health issues and training leaders in public health research, education and practice. The department provides leadership to protect and improve the health of the public. Through research, policy analysis and education that draw upon multidisciplinary scholarship from across the graduate and professional programs at Yale, the school’s affiliates serve local, national and international communities with their knowledge and expertise.
