Apple Galette workshop
The Sustinable Food Project will host its annual apple galette workshop at 4
p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The event will take place at the Yale Farm, Edwards Street, between Prospect
Street and Whitney Avenue. Melina Shannon-DiPietro, co-director of the project,
will teach participants the process of making a galette, from composing the dough
to choosing which kinds of apples are best for baking. Shannon-DiPietro will
use apples from High Hill Orchard in Meriden while demonstrating two classic
galette recipes. The workshop is open to all, but those interested in attending
should R.S.V.P. to laura.hess@yale.edu.
Winter clothing donations
The Office of International Students and Scholars, Graduate Student Life at the
McDougal Center, and University Health Services are currently sponsoring their
fifth annual “How to Survive a New England Winter: Cold Clinic and Winter
Coat Giveaway.”
Community members may donate “gently-used” coats, hats, mittens,
scarves, boots, gloves and sweaters for men, women and children. Items may be
donated at the International Center, 421 Temple St.; the McDougal Center, Hall
of Gradaute Studies, Rm. 123, 320 York St.; and the School of Nursing student
lounge, 100 Church St.
The final day for donations will be Monday, Oct. 22. Donated clothing will be
made available to new international students and scholars, many of whom are experiencing
winter for the first time. Any unclaimed clothing will be donated to a local
charity.

Free drawing classes
The School of Art is offering free open life drawing classes to members of the
University community.
Sessions take place 8-10 p.m. on Tuesdays in Rm. GO-1, 1156 Chapel St. Material
and model will be supplied.

Library information session
The University Library’s Standing Committee on Professional Awareness and
Diversity Council are sponsoring a library school information session and reception
on Thursday, Oct. 18, 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Sterling Memorial Library lecture
hall.
All members of the University community considering or interested in a career
as a librarian, archivist or information manager are invited to learn more about
these professions. Representatives from local and area library school programs
including Drexel eLearning/Drexel, Long Island, and Southern Connecticut State
Universities, Simmons College, and the Universities of Illinois and Rhode Island
will be attending. Literature and alumni representatives who work in the Yale
Library will also be available from the Universities of Arizona, Hawaii, Pittsburgh,
Toronto, Wisconsin-Madison and Catholic, Syracuse and Indiana Universities.
Alice Prochaska, Yale University Librarian, and Edward Harris, dean of the School
of Communication, Information and Library Science at Southern Connecticut State
University, will make brief keynote remarks.

Recyling open house
Yale Recyling will host an open house at its Fair Haven facility on Friday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m-2 p.m.
Members of the University community will have the opportunity to choose free
furniture and office supplies; learn about Yale’s collection program for
surplus and how it donates back to charities or Yale departments; and enjoy snacks
provided by the Yale Catering/Sustainable Food Project.
Attendees may catch the bio-diesel shuttle as it loops past Phelp’s Gate,
Sterling Hall of Medicine or the parking lot entrance at the corner of Whitney
Avenue and Humphrey Street.
