Exhibit examines post-war effort to halt the spread of communism in Greece
“Reflections on America’s Intervention in Post-World War II Greece,” an exhibition commemorating the 60th
anniversary of the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan, is now on view in the
Memorabilia Room of the Sterling Memorial Library, 120 High St.
The exhibition examines the role of the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan,
two U.S. initiatives designed to halt the spread of communism, in Greece in the
aftermath of World War II and during the Greek Civil War.
The show features photographs, maps, pamphlets and books from the Harry S. Truman
Library, the George C. Marshall Foundation, the Library of Congress and the Yale
Library’s Department of Manuscripts and Archives.
“Reflections on America’s Intervention in Post-World War II Greece” is
curated by John Iatrides, professor emeritus of political science at Southern
Connecticut State University, and sponsored by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation
Center for Hellenic Studies at Yale.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. It runs until Oct. 31.
