Gallery exhibition features work by Howard el-Yasin

Howard el-Yasin, student services officer at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, will be one of the featured artists in “Contemporary Perspectives: The 2007 ALL Members & Friends Exhibition.”

The exhibit will run Oct. 13 through Nov. 8 at Erector Square in New Haven. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. An artists’ reception and City-wide Open Studios “after party” will be held 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. The event is free and open to the public.

Arts + Literature Laboratory (ALL) is a nonprofit community arts organization for visual and performing artists and writers. ALL encourages “collaborative efforts and facilitates a cross-pollination of ideas among artists, writers and the entire Greater New Haven community.” For more information, send e-mail to info@allgallery.org.


Weideman elected fellow of Society of American Archivists

Christine Weideman, interim director of the University Library’s Department of Manuscripts and Archives, has been elected a fellow of the Society of American Archivists (SAA).

Founded in 1936, SAA is North America’s oldest and largest national archival professional association. Election as a fellow is considered the organization’s highest honor.

In making the award, the society noted that Weideman exemplified the highest contributions to the profession, to SAA and to her colleagues. In her two decades as a professional archivist, noted the SAA, Weideman has made important contributions to archival discourses, particularly in the areas of appraisal and collection development.
