Yale School of Nursing receives
'critical' financial aid support

The Helene Fuld Health Trust of New York has pledged $2 million to help Yale School of Nursing (YSN) provide critically needed financial aid for students who enroll in its graduate entry program for non-nurses.

The trust also granted an additional $500,000 to YSN to support their interdisciplinary educational partnership with Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine. Funding will provide start up support to establish a simulation center for the education and training of health care teams.

“Despite the demand, there are serious barriers to an ?advanced practice education,” says YSN Dean Margaret Grey. “The most significant impediment is the high cost of nursing education, which is usually borne by the student and the educational institution. In addition, nurses’ earning potential is much lower than that of other health professions and, as a result, working nurses struggle to repay their student loans.”

Helene Fuld Health Trust Scholars at Yale will be selected based on their exceptional academic performance and a commitment to pursue a career caring for society’s most vulnerable underserved populations. Additional support from this gift will underwrite a series of seminars focusing on leadership, community health and the exercise of social responsibility in health care.

The Helene Fuld Health Trust is the nation’s largest private funder devoted exclusively to nursing students and nursing education.
