Junior Mike Schulte set a new Lehigh pool record while swimming the 1650 freestyle in the Bulldogs' victory over the Mountain Hawks on Jan. 20.



Men's Basketball (6-9, 3-0 Ivy)

This Week: Jan. 23 vs. Penn State, 7 p.m., John J. Lee Amphitheater

Senior Neil Yanke (Akron, OH) recorded his third double-double of the season and the 12th of his career with a 15-point, 10-rebound effort in the win over Brown. Yanke scored 13 of his points in the second half, including four straight after Brown had pulled to within 61-60 with 2:21 left.

Freshman Paul Vitelli (Morristown, NJ) scored a career-high 13 points against Brown. He was 5 for 7 from the field and 2 for 3 from the foul line. He also added four rebounds, three assists and a block. In his last four games, Vitelli is averaging 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds. For his efforts he was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.


Women's Basketball (5-11, 0-3 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 15 -- Yale 81, Navy 58

Jan. 19 -- Brown 67, Yale 55

This Week: Jan. 27 at Brown, 2 p.m.

Yale had five players reach double figures in the victory over Navy, led by senior Lily Glick (Cleburne, TX) and sophomore Maria Smear (Annapolis, MD), who both scored 12.

Freshman Brynn Gingras (Wallingford, CT) scored a career-high 17 points against Brown. She was 4 for 8 from the field, including 2 of 3 from three-point range, and 7 of 9 from the foul line.


Men's Fencing (2-3, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 21 -- Notre Dame 18, Yale 9

St. John's 18, Yale 9

This Week: Jan. 23 vs. Brandeis, 7 p.m., Payne Whitney Gym

Yale won the foil 5-4 against both St. John's and Notre Dame.

Freshman Peter Cellini (Chevy Chase, MD) was 3-0 in the foil against St. John's.


Women's Fencing (5-1, 1-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 21 -- Yale 15, Notre Dame 12

St. John's 20, Yale 7

This Week: Jan. 23 vs. Brandeis, 7 p.m., Payne Whitney Gym

In the victory over Notre Dame, Yale won the foil 5-4 and the sabre 6-3.

Freshman Sada Jacobson (Atlanta, GA) was 3-0 in the sabre against St. John's.


Gymnastics (1-1, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 20 -- Yale 186.20, Vermont 172.55

This Week: Jan. 27 at Pennsylvania,
1:30 p.m.

Freshman Jamie Green (Los Angeles, CA) won both the vault (9.5) and the bars (9.850) in the victory over Vermont. Sophomore Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) captured the beam (9.6) and sophomore Shoshanna Engel (Louisville, KY) won the floor exercise (9.9).


Men's Ice Hockey (9-8-0, 6-6-0 ECAC)

Last Week: Jan. 20 -- Yale 6, Holy Cross 1

This Week: Jan. 27 vs. Notre Dame, 4 p.m., New Haven Coliseum

Jan. 28 vs. Notre Dame, 1 p.m., Ingalls Rink

Yale's top line of seniors Jeff Hamilton (Englewood, OH) and Ben Stafford (Edina, MN) and sophomore Nick Deschenes (Morinville, ALB) had nine points against Holy Cross. Hamilton led the way with three goals and one assist.

Freshman Ryan Steeves (Rockland, ONT) scored his first career goal in the win over the Crusaders.


Women's Ice Hockey (2-16-1, 1-14-1 ECAC)

This Week: Jan. 26 vs. Concordia, 5 p.m., Ingalls Rink

Jan. 27 vs. Wayne State, 1:30 p.m., Ingalls Rink

Senior Kate McAdams (Chicago, IL) and sophomore Kaitlin Porcaro (Pelham, NY) scored in the loss to Niagara.

Freshman Nicolette Franck (Burlington, ONT) made 38 saves to record her first career shutout in the tie with Niagara.


Men's Squash (6-1, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 17 -- Trinity 9, Yale 0

Jan. 20 -- Yale 9, Cornell 0

Yale 9, Hamilton 0

Yale 9, Hobart 0

This Week: Jan. 27 vs. Navy, 11 a.m., Payne Whitney Gym vs. Rochester, 1 p.m.; vs. Bates, 5 p.m.

In the three victories on Jan. 20 Yale won 101 of the 102 games.

Freshman Anshul Manchanda (Mumbia, India) was a winner in the No. 1 position against Hobart and Cornell.


Women's Squash (3-1, 0-1 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 17 -- Trinity 8, Yale 1

Jan. 20 -- Yale 9, Hamilton 0

Cornell 6, Yale 3

This Week: Jan. 24 at Amherst, 4 p.m.

Senior Liese Fritze (Chestnut Hill, MA) and juniors Katharine Sands (Farmington, CT) and Colleen Terry (Seattle, WA) each won their matches against Cornell and Hamilton.


Men's Swimming (7-0, 3-0 EISL)

This Week: Jan. 27 at Pennsylvania, w/Dartmouth

Yale had two swimmers set Lehigh pool records in the victory over the Mountain Hawks. Junior Mike Schulte (Wellesley, MA) won the 1650 freestyle in 15:41.21, and senior George Gleason (St. Croix, VI) was first in the 400 individual medley in 4:00.02.


Women's Swimming (7-0, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 19 -- Yale 143, Fordham 91

Jan. 20 -- Yale 160, Lehigh 132

This Week: Jan. 27 at Pennsylvania, w/Dartmouth

Sophomores Heidi Kraus (Irvine, CA) and Susan Cooke (Vero Beach, FL) both set Lehigh pool records. Kraus won the 1650 freestyle in 17:11.30 and Cooke captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.68.


Men's Track & Field (1-1, 1-1 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 21 -- Dartmouth 87.5, Yale 52, Columbia 29.5

This Week: Jan. 27-28, Terrier Classic at Boston University

Sophomore Anthony Thomas (Bethel, CT) finished first in the long jump (23'10.75") and second in the triple jump (44'5.25") against Dartmouth and Columbia. In addition, junior Don Carson (Pittsburgh, PA) won the 500 dash in 1:05.59.


Women's Track & Field (2-0, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 21 -- Yale 72.5, Dartmouth 54.5, Columbia 32

This Week: Jan. 27-28, Terrier Classic at Boston University

Senior Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu (Chestnut Hill, MA) won both the long jump (18'5") and the triple jump (39'6.5") against Dartmouth and Columbia. Other winners for the Bulldogs were senior Jennifer Newsom (Golden Valley, MN) in the 200 dash (26.21), sophomore Anika Kreider (Chatham, NJ) in the 400 dash (59.55), senior Emily Estey (Wellfleet, MA) in the 800 run (2:11) and senior Melanie Harris (New Rochelle, NY) in the 20-pound weight throw (55'8.50").
