School of Nursing Dean Catherine L. Gilliss will speak on the topic "Families and Chronic Illness" on Thursday, Dec. 6, as part of the Program for Humanities in Medicine lecture series.
Her talk will take place at 5 p.m. in the Beaumont Room of the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St. All are welcome to attend the free event.
For over 20 years, Gilliss has studied chronic illness and family life in order to better understand their interaction. She has examined families living with cardiac illness and diabetes, as well as relationships between parents and children and between committed adult couples. In her talk, she will use photographs and narrative text to present a portrait of families dealing with a chronic illness.
