Two Yale faculty members will present lectures at the American Physiological Society's experimental biology meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, in April. Biff Forbush, professor of physiology, will present the Carl W. Gottschalk Distinguished Lectureship -- Renal Section on the topic "Regulation of the Na-K-Cl Cotransporter in Secretion and Absorption" on April 21. Richard P. Lifton, chair of the Department of Genetics and professor of genetics, molecular biophysics and biochemistry, and internal medicine (nephrology), will give the Ernest H. Starling Distinguished Lectureship -- Water and Electrolyte Homeostasis Section on "Genetics, the Kidney and Hypertension" on April 23.

Rowan A. Greer, the Walter H. Gray Professor Emeritus of Anglican Studies and lecturer at the Divinity School, won the Theologos Award for Book of the Year 2001 from the Association of Theological Booksellers. He was honored for his book "Christian Hope and Christian Life: Raids on the Inarticulate."

The Berkeley Divinity School at Yale is cosponsoring a Church Leadership Series on the theme "Being Made New," exploring the changing roles and expectations of leadership in the church both today and in the future. The first session of this series, "Worship and Being Made New," will celebrate unique forms of worship that are connecting with those who are awakening spiritually. It will take place 8:30 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Christ Church Episcopal Church, 84 Broadway, New Haven. Robert P. Forbes, associate director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance and Abolition, and lecturer of American studies and history, was named Higher Education Multicultural Faculty of the Year by the National Association of Multicultural Education (NAME). He was recognized for his "contributions, through specific actions, to improving education for all students; to demonstrating an active commitment to valuing diversity and addressing discrimination in education; and to promoting value of diversity in an educational setting." The award was presented at NAME's sixth annual Connecticut conference on Oct. 25 in Waterbury.

The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) at the School of Medicine presented its annual Community Recognition Award to Dominick Maldonado, the HIV/AIDS coordinator for the New Haven Health Department, in recognition for his efforts to bring the community into a partnership with EPH on training and research. Theodore Holford, professor and acting dean of EPH, presented the award to Maldonado at an Oct. 4 ceremony at the New Haven Health Department.

The next meeting of the Muriel Gardiner Program in Psychoanalysis and the Humanities will be on Saturday,
Dec. 1, 10 a.m.­noon at the Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis,
255 Bradley St. Dr. M. Robert Gardner, founder and training analyst of the Psychoanalytic Institute of New England, will speak on "Vincent Van Gogh."

A Sept. 30 benefit concert organized by Eric Kim '02 of the Musical Cure at Yale raised over $21,000 for the families of fallen policemen and firemen in the Sept. 11 tragedy. The event included performances by The Yale Cellos and the Whiffenpoofs, as well as UNITY, Steppin' Out and a group of bagpipers as the opening acts. A corporate sponsor matched 100% of all tickets sales up to $10,000.

The first Yale MBA Women's Summit, presented by the Yale School of Management (SOM) Admissions Office and the Women in Management student interest group, took place on Nov. 7 at the Yale Club of New York. The event, titled "Leadership in Dynamic Organizations: A Personal View," brought together some of the most powerful women in American businesses today, including Yale SOM alumnae Indra Nooyi, president and chief executive officer of PepsiCo, Inc., and Nancy Peretsman, executive vice president and managing director of Allen & Company.
