Susan E. Lederer, assistant professor of the history of medicine at the School of Medicine, will present a lecture titled "Red, White and Black: Blood and Race in the USA" on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Beaumont Room of the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St.
Her talks is sponsored by the Program for Humanities in Medicine.
Lederer will discuss how policies in the American blood supply, such as those of the former "Jim Crow" South, reflect deep-seated beliefs about purity and danger, families and strangers, and communities and nations.
All are welcome to attend the free event.
