If you were in the vicinity of Phelps Gate between the hours of 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the evening of Dec. 4, 1998, the New Haven Police Department would like to speak with you. You may have observed something, which may seem unimportant or inconsequential to you, but may be helpful and important to the police investigation into the murder of Suzanne Jovin.
The night of Dec. 4, 1998 was an unusually warm night, and many people were on the street that evening. Suzanne Jovin was last seen in the vicinity of Phelps Gate as she left the Old Campus area. She had just walked through the Old Campus and was seen by at least two other undergraduates at that time. Police have reason to believe that other people may have seen her or observed something else that may prove helpful to the investigation.
It has been over three years since Suzanne Jovin was murdered in the East Rock section of New Haven. Solving this crime continues to be an important priority for the New Haven Police Department. Despite great efforts on the part of detectives and other interested parties, the case remains unsolved. In an ongoing effort to solicit help from the public, the New Haven Police Department and the State Attorney's Office are seeking the help of the public, particularly the students, alumni, faculty and staff of the Yale community.
You are urged to call the New Haven Police if you were in the vicinity of Phelps Gate that evening or have any information pertaining to the case. Contact Michael Quinn of the Investigative Services Division of the New Haven Police Department at (203) 946-6304 or the New Haven Police TIPS Hotline at 1-866-888-TIPS. You can earn a reward of $150,000. All calls will be kept confidential.
