Yale Rep features noted humorist of Lake Wobegan
Radio humorist Garrison Keillor has said, "In the comedy field, you only need a few facts to get you started, and sometimes it helps if they're wrong."
The creator and star of "A Prairie Home Companion" will offer his humorous insights about modern life and times in live performances on three consecutive Mondays in April.
Titled "Garrison Keillor: A Life in Comedy," the event is sponsored by the Yale Repertory Theatre and will be presented April 15, 22 and 29 at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre, 222 York St.
Over 3 million people tune in weekly to hear Keillor's tales of Lake Wobegon. Audiences have been enjoying his humor on Minnesota Public Radio since 1969 and on Public Radio International since 1980.
"'A Prairie Home Companion' is a Saturday night tradition throughout America," says Victoria Nolan, the Yale Rep's managing director, "and to have its creator live at Yale Rep is an exceptional opportunity for devoted followers and new audiences alike."
In addition to his radio program, Keillor has published essays for Time magazine, story collections, novels and children's books. He says he aspires to be "a man of letters, capable of fiction, poetry, drama and criticism" and, despite the popularity of his broadcasts and publications, claims to have "a long way to go" to achieve that goal.
Tickets for "Garrison Keillor: A Life in Comedy" are $10-$25. For more information, or to order tickets, call the Yale Rep box office at (203) 432-1234 Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.yalerep.org.
