The logo from the poster for Communiversity Day 2002 shows this year's theme: "Celebrating Differences Together."

Communiversity Day will be held April 20

"Celebrating Differences Together" is the theme of this year's Communiversity Day celebration of town-gown ties.

An annual tradition since the early 1980s, Communiversity Day brings area residents to campus for a day of free fun, education and entertainment. This year's celebration will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, on Old Campus (bordered by Chapel, High, Elm and College streets). In the event of rain, the activities will be held in Dwight Hall on 63 High St.

The program will include musical, dramatic and dance performances by groups from the University and the Greater New Haven area. There will be a Kids' Carnival featuring rides and hands-on activities for youngsters. This year's program will also include a Community Action Bazaar, where visitors can learn about the important work being done by Yale and local public service organizations, as well as a Health Information Fair.

As has also become traditional, the day will feature a giant cookout, with free food and drinks for all.

Communiversity Day was organized by the Yale chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a coeducational service fraternity, in collaboration with the many groups that represent culture and diversity in New Haven. The event is cosponsored by Dwight Hall at Yale and the University's Office of New Haven and State Affairs.
