In her book, Menocal, the R. Selden Rose Professor of Spanish and Portuguese and head of the Whitney Humanities Center, relates the history of Andalucia, Spain from 786 to 1492, a time when three cultures--Judaic, Islamic, and Christian--forged a relatively stable coexistence.

The event is free and open to the public.

For more information, call (203) 432-1134.

Eyeglass drive

Unite For Sight, a Yale nonprofit organization, is holding an ongoing "Donate Your Eyes" eyeglass drive.

Members of the Yale and Connecticut communities are encouraged to donate used prescription eyeglasses or nonprescription UV-protected sunglasses, which will be sent to eye clinics in developing countries for patients who cannot afford to purchase glasses. Collection bins are located in Sterling Memorial Library, 120 High St.

Unite For Sight is dedicated to preventing blindness locally and internationally through free community vision screenings, public education about eye disease and the importance of regular eye exams to prevent blindness, a speaker series, and an eyeglass drive. Additionally, the organization is committed to supporting those community members with deteriorating vision through community assistance.

For further information, send e-mail to Jennifer.Staple@yale.edu or visit www.uniteforsight.org.
