Students to work with community service groups via AYA Summer Fellowships
Yale students will spend eight weeks this summer working for homeless shelters, health centers, educational enrichment programs, environmental conservation initiatives, and community outreach and advocacy organizations through the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) Community Service Summer Fellowship Program.
Established in 1989, the fellowships are supported by alumni groups and individuals across the country and overseas. This year 32 fellows have been selected. The alumni sponsors, the students and the organizations they will work for are:
Yale Club of New York City: Rachel Alpert '03, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a community-based financial counseling and economic assistance organization serving homeowners, tenants, landlords and merchants in Brooklyn; and Jeremy Martin '03, Partnership for the Parks/Outreach Program, which works to increase community support for and involvement in the city's parks.
Class of '65/ Yale Club of Pittsburgh (PA): Daphna Blatt '03, KidsVoice, which provides legal representation to abused, neglected and at-risk children.
Kenneth Cohen '68/Yale Westchester Alumni Association (NY): Margaret Butterfield '03, Family Services of Westchester "Summer Success," a program for emotionally disturbed children and their families.
Class of '59: Acacia Clark '04, The Workplace Project in Hempstead, New York, a nonprofit organization for Latino immigrant workers.
Yale Club of Hawaii: Edwin Dietrich '03, Waikiki Health Center, which provides low-cost health and medical care.

Yale Club of Washington, D.C.: Jennifer Fulham '03, Community Family Life Services, a center serving low-income or homeless families and individuals.
Class of '63/Yale Alumni Association of Greenwich (CT): Katrina Gipson '04, Arredondo Foundation, which offers educational programs for at-risk children.
George Pillsbury '43/Yale Alumni Association of the Northwest: Jeffrey Goldberg '04, Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights, which offers free legal assistance on human rights cases; and Magni Hamso '05, Minnesota International Health Volunteers, which focuses on improving community health in developing countries and for Minnesota's Somali population.
Yale Club of Hartford (CT): Katherine Gressel '03, Real Art Ways, a center for contemporary arts and culture.
Yale Club of Princeton (NJ): Christopher Hanson '05, Stony Brook Millstone Watershed, one of the state's leading environmental organizations.
Yale Club of Boston (MA): Janeen Hayat '04, The Horizons Initiative, which offers programs for homeless children; Elizabeth Larson '03, Jumpstart, a program to prepare children for success in school; and John McCormack '03, B.E.L.L. Foundation, an educational program for children from economically disadvantaged communities.
Class of '59/Yale Club of Southern California: Amma Hewitt '03, Las Familias Del Pueblo, a community center in the heart of Los Angeles' Skid Row.
Yale Club of Tampa Bay (FL): Erin Kaderly '03, Sallie House/Salvation Army, an emergency shelter for children ages birth to 11 years old.
Yale Club of Houston (TX): Leah Kelley '04, Chicano Family Center College Preparation Camp, which serves 10th- and 11th-graders.
Yale Club of Chicago (IL): Lara Kislinger '03, Hephzibah Children's Association, a community-based, nonprofit child welfare program.
Class of '59/Yale Club of Vermont: Melissa Lago '04, Shelburne Farms, a working farm and conservation education organization.
Harold Bornstein '53 M.D./Yale Alumni Association of Montclair (NJ): Amanda Laws '03, Communities in Schools of New Jersey, which offers comprehensive school-based programs.

Yale Club of New Haven (CT): Naomi Massave '04, Connecticut Job Corps, which provides academic and career training and social services to disadvantaged youths ages 16-24.
Yale Club of Dallas (TX): Deanna McDevitt '03, Scottish Rites Hospital, a pediatric center for the treatment of orthopedic, neurological and learning disabilities.
Class of '59/Yale Club of Charleston (SC): David Noyola '04, Historic Charleston Foundation, which seeks to preserve and protect the city's historical and cultural character.
Yale Club of Georgia: Lindsey Parker '04, Hands on Atlanta, a nonprofit volunteer service center.
Colorado Yale Association: Christine Pham '04, Volunteer for Outdoor Colorado, a nonprofit and nonpolitical environmental organization.
Yale Club of Omaha (NE): Matthew Robinson '03, Camp Kitaki, a coed YMCA camp for youths ages 7-17.
Yale Alumni Association of Central Pennsylvania: Katrinia Schnoebelen '04, Program for Female Offenders, a Harrisburg-area initiative offering a variety of services to women in prison.
Class of '33/Yale Club of New Canaan-Wilton and Yale Club of Norwalk (CT): Chikae Yamauchi '05, Horizons Student Enrichment Program, which provides academic and cultural enrichment programs for low-income, urban children.
Yale Club of Hong Kong: Betty Yip '05, St. Barnabas' Society and Home, a Christian organization that ministers to low-income and homeless individuals.
