Edwin D. Mullen, long-time
manager of purchasing, dies

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, for Edwin D. Mullen, 77, a long-time manager of purchasing at Yale, who died March 9 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The service will begin at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Branford, 1009 Main St., in Branford, Connecticut.

Mr. Mullen was manager of purchasing at the University for 19 years before retiring in 1986. He formerly lived in Branford.

Born on May 13, 1924, in City Island, New York, he was the son of Robert S. and Ida Sue Anderson Mullen. He was a graduate of Fordham Prep and earned his undergraduate degree at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where he majored in drama.

Mr. Mullen pursued his passion for acting throughout his life, performing in community, regional and professional theaters in Connecticut, New York City, San Antonio and Nashville, Tennessee. He also enjoyed sailing catamarans and was the author of two books, "Short Bike Rides in Connecticut" and "Short Bike Rides on Cape Cod, Nantucket & the Vineyard."

Mr. Mullen is survived by his former wife and life-long friend, Marguerite Fouésil Mullen of Rockport, Massachusetts; their four children, Alan Mullen of Kassel, Germany, Michel Mullen of Helotes, Texas, Laurent Mullen of Branford, Connecticut, and Cybèle Mullen Grier of Gloucester, Massachusetts; four grandchildren; his sister, Alice Mullen Eriksen of Tarpon Springs, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Mullen's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Massachusetts, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
