Workshop will offer information on funding to small-business owners
A workshop designed to help owners of start-up enterprises increase their chances of winning Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding will be held at Yale on Monday, Dec. 9.
Titled "Success with SBIR & STTR Programs," the workshop is sponsored by Yale's Office of Cooperative Research and CURE, Connecticut's BioScience Cluster. It will take place 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in Rm. 202 of Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Ave.
SBIR grants, part of a $1.5 billion program run out of 10 federal agencies, provide funding (grants, no pay-back required) to small U.S. businesses for research and development of commercially viable concepts. The federal STTR program, which is similar to the SBIR program, is designed to promote joint venture opportunities between small businesses and the nation's premier nonprofit research institutions.
The workshop at Yale will be led by an instructor from the SBIR Resource Center, a leading supplier of commercial resources to the SBIR/STTR community.
Using the workshop materials, participants will learn why SBIR is an important source of venture financing, determine whether the SBIR/STTR programs are right for their firms and discover how to craft winning proposals.
Before Nov. 29, registration is $200 for CURE members and $290 for all others; after that date, registration is $235 for CURE members and $325 for all others. Early registration is advised, as seating is limited. To register, call 1-800-WIN-SBIR or visit the website at www.win.sbir.com and choose the "SBIR Course" link. For further information, call (410) 315-8101 or send e-mail to SBIR@win-sbir.com or kcharles@curenet.org.
