"Lunch and Learn" talk

Carolyn Mazure, professor of psychiatry and director of Women's Health Research, will speak on "Women's Health Research" on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 12:15 p.m.

The brown-bag lunch meeting will be held in the 1st floor lounge of the Grace Building, 25 Park St. Dessert and beverages will be served. The meeting is sponsored jointly by the Yale University Women's Organization and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary. It is open to the public, free of charge.


Fall book fair

The Phyllis Bodel Childcare Center at the Yale School of Medicine will host its annual Fall Book Fair, Monday-Friday, Nov. 18-22, in the rotunda of the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St.

The fair, which raises funds for scholarships, will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and will feature children's books, current bestsellers, cookbooks and self-help books. All books are 30-70 percent off the list price. For more information, call (203) 785-3829.


Tax Department notice

The University Tax Department has issued a notice for non-U.S. citizens.

Any non-U.S. citizens who are currently claiming a reduced federal income tax withholding rate (including a full exemption from withholding) on payments pursuant to a tax treaty may need to complete updated tax forms for the calendar year 2003.

The Forms 8233, Exemption from Withholding on Compensation for Independent Personal Services of a Nonresident Alien Individual, are only valid for the tax year for which they are filed. Current Forms 8233 will expire on Dec. 31.

The Forms W-8BEN, Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Withholding are effective for three calendar years. Forms W-8BEN filed in the calendar year 2000 will expire on Dec. 31.

All individuals who are currently claiming a reduced withholding rate pursuant to a tax treaty and whose exemption forms will expire on Dec. 31 (that is, those who filed a 2002 Form 8233 or a Form W-8BEN in the calendar year 2000) will be notified by letter or e-mail. The letter will instruct those individuals to schedule an appointment and meet with the University Tax Department prior to Dec. 19 in order to file updated treaty election forms.

The Tax Department is currently scheduling appointments with these individuals, to be held Nov. 18-Dec. 19. Preschool open house

A preschool, day care and kindergarten open house will be held at the Calvin Hill Day Care Center on Saturday, Nov. 16, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Located at 150 Highland St., between Whitney Ave. and Prospect St., the center is a nationally-accredited, full-day facility for community and university families. Tuition is set on a sliding scale according to income. Teachers work with three separate groups of children, ranging in age from three-year-olds to six-year-olds. The center is open 8 a.m.-5:15 p.m., and also offers a summer program.

Child Conduct Clinic

The Yale Child Conduct Clinic is currently accepting children between the ages of 2 and 131Ž2 who are displaying behavioral problems such as lying, disobeying parents, swearing, cheating, not getting along with others or getting into trouble at school. For more information, call (203) 432-9993.
