Panel to explore the future of the environment
A roundtable being held at Yale on Monday, Sept. 16, will focus on some of the most recent information brought forward during the World Summit on Sustainable Development held Aug. 26-Sept. 4 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The discussion -- titled "The Fight Against Environmental Degradation: Where Do We Go From Johannesburg?" -- will take place in Rm. 211 of the Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York St. It is free and open to the public. Light lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m., and the presentation will begin at noon.
This event is co-sponsored by the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization, the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES) and the Yale Student Environmental Coalition.
The roundtable panelists -- all of whom attended the summit in Johannesburg -- will include F&ES Dean James Gustave Speth; Daniel Esty, professor of environmental law and policy and director of Yale's Center for Environmental Law and Policy; Ian Cheney, who graduated from Yale College this spring and is currently a candidate in the Master's of Environmental Management program at F&ES; and Tony LaVina, senior fellow in the Biological Resources Program at the World Resources Institute in Washington, D.C.. The roundtable will be moderated by Ernesto Zedillo, director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.
