Between settling in and preparing for their first seminar, the inaugural class of Yale World Fellows took time to meet with President Richard C. Levin and other distinguished Yale faculty at a reception during the first week of September.
The 17 fellows, selected from more than 500 applications from 100 countries, will spend the next 13 weeks working with Yale's leading faculty developing programs to further their work in their home country, examining issues of international importance and building a network of contacts from across the globe.
Members of the first class of World Fellows -- which includes presidential advisers, cabinet ministers, business leaders, leading journalists, environmental and human rights activists and other outstanding mid-career professionals -- were selected because they all have an established record of achievement and engagement in public issues, the promise of future leadership, a capacity for creative, strategic and entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to contribute to global understanding at Yale.
The program seeks equip emerging world leaders with the tools and ideas to meet the challenges of today's global society. The World Fellows Program will share the newly renovated Betts House (the former Davies Mansion) with the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.
