Edward C. Hoffman Jr.



Edward Hoffman, had served
as director of operations at Yale

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, for Edward C. Hoffman Jr., a former director of operations at Yale, who died of colon cancer on March 17 at age 78.

The service will take place at 2 p.m. in Battell Chapel, corner of Elm and College streets.

Mr. Hoffman was Yale's director of operations 1985-1991. Prior to coming to the University, he worked for 28 years for General Electric Company, retiring as director of operations of the Transformer Department in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. After leaving Yale, he became director of operations at Connecticut College in New London, retiring in 1997.

Born in Schenectady, New York, Mr. Hoffman attended Union College and earned a degree in industrial engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During World War II, he served as a U.S. Marine in Unit VMB 612.

He is survived by his wife, Viola Pulver Hoffman, whom he married May 15, 1948; three daughters, Deborah Scoggins of Amherst, New Hampshire, Caren Williams of Richmond, Masschusetts, and Cynthia Clifford of East Fishkill, New York; four grandchildren, Ryan and Heather Scoggins and Michael and Catherine Clifford; and a brother, Robert Hoffman.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions be made in Mr. Hoffman's memory to the Weiss Hospice Unit, Middlesex Hospital, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
