Book club event will feature
a talk by Dr. Ben Carson

The Ben Carson/Yale University Book Club will host a special event for its members and the New Haven community featuring a talk by the noted neurosurgeon and Yale trustee for whom the club is named.

Dr. Ben Carson's talk will take place on Saturday, April 12, at 1:30 p.m. in the John J. Lee Amphitheatre at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium, 70 Tower Pkwy. Admission is free, but tickets are required for the reserved seating section and may be obtained by calling (203) 432-1998.

Each member of the Ben Carson/Yale University Book Club may have three reserved seating tickets -- one for themselves and two tickets for family or friends. Book club members and their guests must be seated by 1:15 p.m. to use the special reserved seating section.

Carson, a 1973 Yale College graduate and member of the the Yale Corporation, is director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. In "Gifted Hands," his best-selling autobiography, he describes how his life changed for the better once he embraced reading. The book club that bears his name and is sponsored by Yale is an incentive program designed to mobilize the community to encourage young people to read, weigh television-viewing choices and to earn "THINK BIG" prizes by supporting club members throughout the city. The club is open to all New Haven Public School students in grades 2-6.

Tickets may be picked up at the Office of New Haven and State Affairs, 433 Temple St., Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Book club members must bring their library cards with a Carson Book Club membership sticker to pick up tickets.

General admission seats will be available at the event for the New Haven community on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will be simulcast live on-site and broadcast on WYBC radio, 94.3 FM.

For more information, call (203) 432-1998.
