Whiffenpoofs concert to benefit local group

The Yale Whiffenpoofs will present a concert to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven on Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in the Yale University Art Gallery's McNeil Lecture Hall (enter on High St.).

The concert is presented by Yale's Office of New Haven and State Affairs and sponsored by PaeTec Communications. Tickets are $20 for general admission; $7 for students. For reservations, contact Amy C. Anderson at the Habitat for Humanity office, (203) 785-0794 ext. 13.

The internationally renowned Whiffenpoofs singing group dates back to 1909, when the four men who made up the elite Varsity Quartet began performing regularly at Mory's, a local tavern. Today the group includes 14 Yale College seniors who have been "tapped" in their junior year. Members will sing with the group for only one year and then "pass and be forgotten with the rest."

Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing by creating homeownership opportunities for working, low-income families. Using volunteer labor and donated funds and materials, Habitat for Humanity rehabilitates abandoned properties and sells them to partner families at no-profit, via 0%-interest mortgages. For more information about Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven, call (203) 785-0794.
