The Yale Library has appointed Meg Bellinger as associate university librarian for integrated library systems and technical services.
Bellinger, who comes to Yale from the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), joins a team of librarians devoted to promoting the integrated library concept at the University, bringing together traditional and electronic services to provide every user with the best possible access to collections in all formats.
In her new post, she will lead the Yale Library in developing and maintaining the bibliographic organization, metadata controls and technological infrastructure necessary for the integrated concept to flourish. She will directly supervise the following departments: Acquisitions, Catalog, Library Systems, Manuscripts and Archives, and Social Science Libraries and Information Services.
Bellinger most recently served as vice president for digital collection and preservation services at OCLC. She has 20 years of experience in publishing micrographic, electronic and print formats for the academic library markets, with particular emphasis on primary source materials from libraries and archives. She has led major business development planning and implementation programs, including the OCLC Digital Archive.
At OCLC she created a new division and led the planning and implementation of digital archiving, development of digital content management tools, programmatic cooperative development and digital production services. She turned a stand-alone business unit from a financial loss into a cost-recovery, sustainable preservation and digitization service for libraries and archives.
Bellinger brings extensive participation in national and international professional activities to the Yale position, including board membership on the U.K. Digital Preservation Coalition and membership in the Strata Supervisory Board, a joint venture between OCLC and the Royal Library of the Netherlands.
