YUWO scholarships to help 11 Yale affiliates further their education
The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) has awarded scholarships to 11 Yale-affiliated women this year.
The scholarships are awarded annually to Yale-affiliated women whose formal educations have been interrupted or delayed and who wish to resume their studies or to enhance or change careers.
Two of the women were given special scholarships. Crystal E. Gooding, business coordinator for Information Technology Services, received the Sirot Award, named in honor of the late Dr. Gustav Sirot; and Sevie K. Pearson, who works in Pierson College dining hall, won the Magee Fenn Award, which honors the late wife of Professor John Fenn, who was a longtime YUWO member.
The other scholarship recipients and their affiliations are: Maria Alma, Yale-New Haven Hospital employee; Kari L.B. Coyle, staff member, School of Medicine; Roselyn Llanos-Robles, staff member, Law School; Larisa Masiar, wife of Peter Masiar of the Department of Anesthesiology; D. Sue Muir, wife of Robert Muir of Physical Plant; Deborah Oliver, staff member, Department of Pathology; Olga Rivera, staff member, Department of Pediatrics; Julie Slowik, staff member, Section of Immunobiology; and Dana Volstorff, graduate student, School of Nursing.
