Paul Kennedy, the J. Richardson Dilworth Professor of History and director of International Security Studies, was elected to the British Academy earlier this month as a corresponding member. This designation is reserved for scholars "not ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom." The British Academy, founded in 1902, is a learned society that promotes research and scholarship in all branches of the humanities and social sciences, under a Royal charter. Election to fellowship is a high honor.

Edward Tufte, professor emeritus of political science, statistics and computer science, received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia on May 22 for his work in analytical design. He also received the Alfred N. Goldsmith Award from the Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering "to recognize distinguished contributions to engineering communications." Tufte's sculpture and print show, titled "Escaping Flatland," was presented at the Architecture + Design Museum in Los Angeles from Nov. 2002 to Feb. 2003.

John H. Langbein, Sterling Professor of Law and Legal History, was presented with a public service award from Connecticut's Secretary of the State on May 5. The award cited Langbein's "dedicated service and contribution to states boards and commissions in Connecticut."

Dr. Riza Momani and Dr. Javier Davila were awarded residents' awards for research in plastic surgery at the School of Medicine by Dr. Phillip and Betty Corso on June 25.
