Memorial Service for Dr. Gustaf Lindskog
There will be a memorial service on Friday, Nov. 8, for Dr. Gustaf E. Lindskog, the William H. Carmalt Professor of Surgery and former chair of surgery at the School of Medicine, who died on Aug. 4 at age 99.
The service will be held at 4 p.m. in Battell Chapel, corner of College and Elm streets. A reception will follow at Dwight Hall, 67 High St.
Widely recognized for his contributions to the field of thoracic surgery, Professor Lindskog taught at Yale for 40 years. He came to New Haven at a time in the evolution of surgical education when the surgical specialties were being recognized as independent units, and he separated them from the previously general surgical category into the individual specialties.
He was also surgeon-in-chief of the Grace-New Haven Community Hospital University Service 1948-1966. He was a consultant to the Veterans Administration Hospital, as well as to many community hospitals in Connecticut.
