recipient of John D. Thompson Prize
Elizabeth Bradley, associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health at the School of Medicine, has become the first Yale researcher to win the John D. Thompson Prize for Young Investigators.
She will receive the prize in June at the National Meeting of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), a global network of colleges, universities, faculty, individuals and organizations dedicated to the improvement of health care delivery through excellence in health administration education.
The prize was established to honor John D. Thompson, a professor of health services administration at Yale, whose teaching, commitment to learning, collegial relationships and health services research standards are without peer. The prize recognizes young investigators from an AUPHA member program based on their contributions to the research literature in the field of health services. Winners receive an honorarium and travel expenses to the AUPHA Annual Meeting.
Bradley's work focuses on the quality of care provided to older people. She has published extensively in the area of hospice, describing the underutilization of hospice as well as common barriers to its appropriate use. Her most recent research efforts have included both quantitative and qualitative methods, helping to formulate new approaches to measuring quality improvement efforts in the hospital setting and evaluating the impact of such efforts on clinical practice.
Bradley received her doctoral degree from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale in 1996 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1986. In addition to her active research agenda, Bradley directs the master's-level Health Management Program in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale and teaches in pre- and post-doctoral programs in the School of Medicine.
