Event explores new advances in chemical biology
New developments in science at the interface of chemistry and biology will be explored at a symposium on Friday, May 14.
The Yale Chemical Biology Symposium will be held 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m in Rm. 110, Sterling Chemistry Laboratory, 225 Prospect St.
The annual symposium began in 1998, fueled by the energy of faculty in the Departments of Chemistry, Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry, and Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology. In recent years, more than 300 students and faculty from Yale, nearby universities and companies have attended.
The speakers for this year's event include Peter Kim, president of the Merck Research Laboratories; Tom Pollard and Gary Brudvig of Yale; Xiaowei Zhuang of Harvard University; Wendell Lim of the University of California at San Francisco; and Vern Shramm of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
The symposium will be followed by a juried poster session focusing on chemical biology research at Yale. Posters will be on display all day, and prizes will be announced at 1:45 p.m.
The event is free of charge and open to the public. Lunch and refreshments are provided for all registered attendees. Registration, driving directions and a full schedule are available at www.yale.edu/chemicalbiology/.
The symposium is sponsored by the Yale Corporate Partnership in the Sciences. Corporate partners include Boehringer-Ingelheim, and Monsanto; support has also been provided by Alexion Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca R&D Boston, Arqule Inc., Aventis and Gilead Sciences.
