Masahiro's most recent production, "Spy Sorge," is an historical thriller based on the life of Richard Sorge, the German newspaper correspondent who passed Japanese military secrets to the Russians during the early years of World War II. He was ultimately captured and executed for his actions. Masahiro reportedly spent 10 years planning the film, which was nominated for several awards from the Japanese Academy.
A critically acclaimed director, Masahiro's other films include "Double Suicide," an award-winning avant-garde production based on a Kabuki play; "Silence," about the persecution of Japanese Christians by the Edo government; and "Himiko," about the Yamatai Empire's queen in ancient Japan.
