Manuscripts and Archives will offer a general introduction to archival research on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 24 and 25.
A major center for primary source research at Yale, Manuscripts and Archives is known for its collections on the University and New Haven, although the materials held by the department have a far broader sweep. They document a wide array of institutions, persons and subject areas including public policy and administration; diplomacy and international affairs; political and social thought and commentary; science, medicine and the environment, among others. Collections on Africa and Latin America are also substantial.
The sessions, which are open to the public, will be of particular interest to new faculty, undergraduates beginning work on seminar papers and senior essays, and graduate students investigating topics for research utilizing the holdings of the department. They will include information on searching the departments databases and finding aids and tools for identifying sources beyond Yale.
Each session will take place in the Cowles Reference Center, Rm. 150, Sterling Memorial Library, 4:15-5:15 p.m. For further information or to register, contact the department at mssa.assist@yale.edu or (203) 432-1744.

The funds seek to promote projects by Yale students that will increase understanding of Jewish history, culture or religious thought. One stipend of $2,000 will be awarded through each fund.
The Horowitz Fund memorializes the late Yale trustee William Horowitz (Yale '29) and his wife Miriam Horowitz. The Fischer Fund memorializes concert pianist Iris Fischer and honors Dr. David Fischer, a member of the faculty of the School of Medicine.
The project may involve art, film, music, travel, study, theater, reading or writing, as long as it is consistent with the stated purpose of the funds. The total cost of carrying out the enterprise may exceed the value of the stipend. Doctoral dissertations are not funded.
Applications must be postmarked no later than March 21. For complete information, including application requirements, visit the website at www.yale.edu/hillel/grants.
