Concert to feature undergraduate musicians

The Saybrook College Orchestra and the Opera Theatre of Yale College will combine forces to present a concert of operatic and orchestral music at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, in Battell Chapel, corner of College and Elm streets.

The event is the first of its kind for a Yale Commencement weekend, and will be one of a series of performances showcasing the vibrant undergraduate cultural life at Yale.

The Saybrook College Orchestra and the Opera Theatre of Yale College collaborated most recently on a production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Both organizations are relatively young and devoted to making traditional works of the operatic and orchestral repertoires accessible to broader audiences.

Saturday's program begins with the first act of Johann Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" and concludes with Tchaikovsky's "Fifth Symphony."

Admission is free.
