Women's healthcare challenges
to be topic of forum

The Women Faculty Forum and the Yale WorkLife Office will present a forum on Wednesday, Nov. 16, focusing on women's healthcare from a variety of perspectives.

Titled "How Health Works Out: Healthcare Challenges Throughout the Lifecycle," the discussion will take place 5:30-7 p.m. in Rm. 101 of Rosenfeld Hall, 109 Grove St. (entrance on Temple St.) It is free and open to the public.

This forum will examine the state of the healthcare infrastructure today and its effectiveness in addressing healthcare needs. In particular, it will focus on the way health disparities continue to grow, often disproportionately affecting women, children and the elderly. Panelists will consider such questions as: How can burdens of care be managed by improving access (coverage, cost, location, availability)? How do current national and global government-provided health systems, funding and research impact the populations they serve? What possibilities exist for reform and what social values play a role in prioritizing future plans?

Panelists will be Sherry A.M. Glied, professor and chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management in Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, and Yale faculty members Jacob Hacker, the Peter Strauss Family Assistant Professor of Political Science, and Jennifer Prah Ruger, assistant professor in the Division of Global Health. The moderator is Carolyn Mazure, professor of psychiatry, also at Yale.

Those wishing to attend a reception before the panel at 5 p.m. should RSVP to wff@yale.edu.
