Music and martial arts, science and service organizations, fancy footwork and just plain fun -- all these and more will be part of the fare at this year's Communiversity Day celebration on Saturday, April 8.
The annual celebration of town-gown harmony will take place 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Old Campus (bordered by Chapel, High, Elm and College streets).
As always, the public is invited to come to campus to enjoy the free activities and free food. This year's celebration is being presented in conjunction with Yale University Library Open House Day (see related story). Communiversity Day is organized by the Yale Chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity, with support from Yale's Office of Community and State Affairs and Campus Development and Dwight Hall at Yale, the Center for Public Service and Social Justice.
The theme of this year's Communiversity Day is "Celebrating Differences Together." Among the featured events will be a Community Action Bazaar featuring a range of service organizations from both Yale and New Haven. Some of the groups will be offering informational pamphlets and posters; others will present demonstrations and workshops. The Yale student group SMArT (Science and Math Achiever Teams), for instance, will demonstrate scientific principles through simple experiments, while another student-run organization, Peace by Peace, will offer workshops on non-violent conflict resolution.
Entertainment will be provided by the Yale Precision Marching Band, various a cappella and dance groups and the Tae Kwon Do team, to name just a few.
As always, there will be a Kids' Carnival with a Moon Bounce and other fun activities.
Also, as in previous years, free food -- in the form of hot dogs and hamburgers -- will be served to all.
