"Home to Go," a video installation and exhibition of photographs by Adrian Paci, is on display through Sept. 30 at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, 409 Prospect St.
The exhibition is being presented in conjunction with the conference "Sex and Religion in Migration." The conference, being held Sept. 15-18, is exploring the connections between sexual and religious identity in the increasingly globalized world of the 21st century. (See www.yale.edu/ism/srmcon.)
Paci is an Albanian multimedia artist currently based in Milan, Italy. His work explores the bodily and religious dimensions of displacement, and challenges viewers' perceptions of reality. The artist has been described as "aware of the leaks and impossibilities of our own experiencing of the most important aspects of common living, like death, encountering, narrating or sharing ..."
The artist's exhibitions include: "Looking Awry" at apexart in New York City; "In the Gorges of the Balkans" at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel, Germany; and "New Video, New Europe" at the Tate Modern, London and the Biennial of Seville, Spain. In 2005, solo exhibitions of his work will be presented at Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston.
"Home to Go" is open to the public free of charge Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be a reception for the artist on Friday, Sept. 16, at 5:15 p.m. On that day, the exhibition will be open continuously until 6 p.m.
The exhibition/installation is presented by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music with support from the Edward J. and Dorothy Clarke Kempf Fund, the Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies, the Program in Judaic Studies and the Department of Religious Studies. For more information about the conference and the exhibition, visit www.yale.edu/ism or call (203) 432-5180.
