President Richard C. Levin has appointed a committee to advise him in the search for a successor to Richard ("Chip") Benson, who will step down as dean of the School of Art at the end of the 2005-2006 academic year.
The committee will be chaired by Tod Papageorge, professor and director of graduate studies in photography at the School of Art. The other members are Sheila de Bretteville, professor and director of graduate studies in graphic design at the School of Art; Keller Easterling, associate professor at the School of Architecture; Gary Haller, the Becton Professor of Engineering and Applied Science, professor of chemistry and master of Jonathan Edwards College; Peter Halley, professor (adjunct) and director of graduate studies in painting and printmaking at the School of Art; Jock Reynolds, the Henry J. Heinz II Director of the Yale University Art Gallery, professor (adjunct) of the history of art and professor (adjunct) at the School of Art; Barbara Shailor, deputy provost for the arts; and Jessica Stockholder, professor and director of graduate studies in sculpture at the School of Art.
Members of the Yale community are encouraged to contact the committee members with suggestions, nominations or comments concerning the selection of the next dean of the School of Art.
