WFF will honor women leaders
from around the globe

The international women leaders visiting Yale through the World Fellows Program will be recognized at a reception on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

"Women's Leadership Around the Globe" will take place 6-8 p.m. in Betts House, 393 Prospect St. The event, which is open to the Yale community, is sponsored by the Women Faculty Forum, Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies and the World Fellows Program.

The honorees will speak about their work and talk with attendees about innovations to further gender equality around the world. The featured guests and a description of their work follow:

Lusine Abovyan, a constitutional law specialist focused on legislative-executive relations, is working to extend fundamental freedoms in Armenia and, with the Armenian Parliament, to rewrite their constitution.

Marianne Camerer is the co-founder and international director of Global Integrity, where she manages a network of 150 social scientists and investigative journalists in 25 countries to generate the "Public
Integrity Index," based on over 250 indicators that assess a country's anti-corruption architecture.

Paromita Goswami works to empower some of India's poorest and most marginalized citizens -- the residents of the Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts of the state of Maharashtra -- through strong, non-violent grassroots movements.

Irène Hors is head of the China Governance Program at the international Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, where she works with Chinese government policymakers to address critical governance issues affecting social and economic development.

Hauwa Ibrahim is one of the top defenders of women's rights in Nigeria. As a senior partner with the Aries Law Firm in Abuja, she successfully challenged numerous charges and convictions under strict Islamic Sharia law, including sentences of death by stoning and limb amputation.

Oanh Khuat strives to improve public health in her native Vietnam by reaching out to at-risk populations through medical services, advocacy and education. She co-founded the Institute for Social Development Studies, where she works as the director of the Center for Health and Social Development.

Mi-Hyung Kim is an executive vice president and general counsel of South Korea's 10th largest conglomerate and oversees all legal affairs for the Kumho Asiana Business Group. The World Economic Forum recently honored her as a New Asian Leader and a Young Global Leader.
