Thirteen Yale affiliates have received scholarships totaling $13,000 from the Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO).
The scholarships are awarded annually to Yale-affiliated women whose formal educations have been interrupted or delayed and who wish to resume their studies or to enhance or change their careers.
Two women were given special scholarships. Letitia Mewborn, who is in an accelerated degree program at Albertus Magnus College, received the Magee Fenn Award, which honors the late wife of John B. Fenn, professor emeritus of chemical engineering and winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002. Doreen Simjian, who is working toward a bachelor's degree in psychology at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), won the Gustave and Carol Lynn Sirot Award.
The other recipients, their fields of study and the schools they are attending are Debra Catalano Falvey, accounting, SCSU; Traci Frye, master's in public health, SCSU; Jessica Gray, accounting, SCSU; Tara Jacqueline Harris, pre-med, Yale Special Student Program; June Hinckley, pediatric nurse practitioner, Yale School of Nursing; Hillary Marino, associate's degree in science, Clarkson University; Tara Ann Noel, associate's degree in science, Gateway Community College; Jill Powers, bachelor's degree in English, Yale Special Student Program; Gretchen Rings, master's in planning and public policy, University of Illinois at Chicago; Marleen Vega-Perez, business management, SCSU; and Marinella Vinci, bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, University of Phoenix.
