A fund created by University leaders to match donation made by individual members of the Yale community to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts will now also match dollar-for-dollar contributions from campus groups, President Richard C. Levin has announced.
In addition, the University has raised its contributory match level from $100 to $1,000 for each individual donation by a student, staff or faculty member, Levin said.
"The compassionate response from all corners of the University to the needs of families and individuals whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and now Rita, has been nothing short of inspirational," wrote Levin in a letter to the Yale community.
"To date, we note 912 individual donations for a combined dollar amount of $183,676 raised through Yale's payroll deduction and matching contribution program," he added. "Your heartfelt generosity through both individual donations and group fundraising efforts has prompted the officers, fellows, deans and I to amend the matching donation program."
The matching fund was created by Yale officers, deans and trustees shortly after the Hurricane Katrina disaster. It will continue to match all contributions to relief efforts through Dec. 9.
Every donation will be eligible for either the individual or group matching funds, but not both. For information about how to make an individual or group donation, or how to apply for matching funds for a previous donation, visit the website at www.yale.edu/katrina.
