Actions you can take to help make
Yale a sustainable campus

There are many ways that members of the Yale community can help in the journey toward a sustainable campus.

The following are just a few actions urged by Julie Newman, director of Yale's Office of Sustainability (see related story). For more tips on how to help create a "greener" Yale, click on the "Get Involved" link on the office's website at www.yale.edu/sustainability.

* Turn off lights, computers and appliances when you leave your room or office.

* Cut down on paper use and waste by bringing your own mug or thermos to the coffee shop.

* Set your computers to power-save mode.

* Recycle cans, bottles and paper. Donate electronics, furniture and other items that can be re-used by someone else.

* During winter months, turn down office or room thermostats when you leave.

* Walk or bike whenever possible. Use public transportation or carpool instead of driving to campus alone.
