Memorial service for Abraham S. Goldstein
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, Nov. 6, for Abraham S. Goldstein, former dean of the Law School and an influential scholar of criminal law.
The service for Goldstein, who died on Aug. 20 at the age of 80, will take place at the close of the Law School's Alumni Weekend at 2:30 p.m. in the school's Levinson Auditorium, 127 Wall St.
A graduate of the Law School, Goldstein joined the faculty there in 1956 and served for almost 50 years. He was Law School dean 1970-1975 and also briefly held the post of Yale provost. At the time of his death, he was Sterling Professor of Law and Professorial Lecturer in Law.
Goldstein was the author of four books and dozens of articles that deeply influenced the practice of law. Among the topics he addressed were the dangers and ambiguities of the law of conspiracy, the insanity defense, criminal trial procedure, and the differences and similarities among criminal procedures around the world.
He served on the Connecticut Governor's Commission to Revise Criminal Statues and held various leadership roles in the American Jewish Congress.
