Benefit concert

The Chaplain's Office and Interfaith Cooperative Ministries will sponsor a "Relief Concert" at Battell Chapel, corner of College and Elm streets, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.

The concert will feature prominent New Haven-area musicians and performers. The event will benefit civilian victims of the conflicts in Gaza, Israel and Lebanon. Admission is free. Voluntary donations are suggested. Donations, which are tax deductible, should be made payable to "Interfaith Cooperative Ministries."

Choral auditions

Four Yale choral groups will hold auditions in September in Leigh Hall, 435 College St.

The Yale Camerata is open to all singers at the University and from the greater New Haven area. Auditions will be held Tuesday-Saturday, Sept. 5-9.

The Yale Schola Cantorum is open to all University students. All members will be given a stipend of $30 per hour. Auditions will be held Tuesday-Saturday, Sept. 5-9.

The Yale Repertory Chorus and Yale Recital Chorus are open to all University students. Both ensembles may be taken for credit or for pay. Auditions will be held Tuesday-Monday, Sept. 5-11.

Audition requirements include good sight-reading ability and a solo performance. For more information or to set up an audition, call (203) 432-9671.

Audition for The Citations

The Citations, the Graduate School's a cappella singing group, will hold auditions on Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 12-14, from 5 to 9 p.m.

Auditions will be 20 minutes long. The group is particularly interested in adding more bass/baritone voices, although other voice parts are welcomed. For more information or to sign up for an audition, send e-mail to erin.williams@yale.edu.

Tax notice

The Tax Office has issued a notice for international affiliates of the University.

All new international students, scholars, faculty members and other visitors who will receive any payments through the University payroll system -- for example, stipends, fellowships or wages -- must meet with the Tax Office prior to receiving payment.

At this meeting, a member of the office will review the individual's tax status to determine proper tax withholding, including whether the individual is eligible to claim a reduced income tax withholding rate pursuant to a tax treaty. The office will also determine if payments to the individual are exempt from Social Security and Medicare (FICA) tax withholding. For more information regarding payments to international individuals, visit the website at www.yale.edu/tax/int.

If an individual has not been set up on the payroll system prior to meeting with the Tax Office, he or she will need to provide documentation from the department regarding the position held (for example, postdoctoral fellow or postdoctoral associate) and type of payment (for example, stipend, fellowship or wage) at the appointment.

International students and scholars may schedule appointments through the International Tax Office website at www.yale.edu/tax/int/appointments.html. In addition, department administrators may schedule an appointment on behalf of an international student or scholar. To schedule an appointment with the office directly, call (203) 432-5530 or (203) 432-5597, or send e-mail to jodie.stewart-moore@yale.edu or daysi.cardona@yale.edu.

During September, appointments will be scheduled Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
