Alumna athlete returns to oversee
fundraising, outreach in Athletics Dept.

Alison Cole ’99, the captain of the Yale women’s lacrosse team in 1999, has returned to Yale as assistant athletic director for development and outreach, Athletics Director Tom Beckett has announced.

Cole will be responsible for fundraising, including work on the Yale Tomorrow Athletic Campaign, and special events for Yale’s 35 varsity programs. She will also direct Yale’s Thomas W. Ford ’42 Community Outreach Program and will coordinate the annual National Youth Sports Program, which involves over 300 inner-city children using Yale’s athletic facilities over the summer.

Cole comes to Yale from Brown University, where she was the assistant director of operations and communications for the university’s Sports Foundation. She managed all Sports Foundation fundraising events, including golf tournaments, regional events and the Hall of Fame Dinner.

This was Cole’s second stint at Brown. She served as the development coordinator in 2003-2004, managing the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of Brown football and the 40th anniversary of Brown women’s ice hockey.

Cole left Brown in 2004 to earn a joint M.B.A. and M.S. in sport management at the University of Massachusetts. While there, she also worked in the Mount Holyoke athletic department, overseeing the facility and game operations while directing the intramural program and serving as assistant lacrosse coach.

After graduating from Yale with a B.A. in political science, Cole worked in marketing and event management with Conde Nast Publications in New York City 1999-2003. She started as a promotion assistant at Women’s Sports & Fitness magazine and eventually became a marketing manager at Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

Cole was a second team All-American and four-time All-Ivy selection for the Bulldogs. She won the Bowditch Award as team MVP in 1998 and 1999. Yale went 48-17 in her four seasons with the team.
