New director of development for School of Music is appointed
Yale’s School of Music and the Office of Development have announced
the joint appointment of Betsy Carr as director of development for the School
of Music.
Carr, who had served in Yale’s Development Office for six years before
leaving in 2000, is currently a senior development officer in the Office of
Advancement at Connecticut College. Her new appointment is effective April
28.
During her five years at Connecticut College, Carr was involved with all aspects
of the development office including major gifts, alumni relations and the annual
fund. Prior to joining Connecticut College, she was a development officer at
Brown University.
Carr says she is looking forward to working with Dean Robert Blocker and her
new colleagues at the School of Music. “I have had a life-long love of
music stemming, I think, from my grandparents, both of whom had beautiful voices.
In fact, my grandfather was a member of the Yale Glee Club, Class of 1898,” she
notes. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to raise support for this
wonderful institution.”
A graduate of the University of Colorado, Carr holds a master’s degree
from the University of Rhode Island and was the general manager of the Summer
Music Festival in Waterford, Connecticut. She is a resident of Stonington,
Connecticut, where she serves on the local Planning and Zoning Commission.
Blocker said of Carr’s appointment, “We are fortunate to have found
in Betsy Carr a person with a deep appreciation of music, years of high-level
experience in development and a strong connection to Yale. With her warmth
and enthusiasm, Betsy will be a fine addition to our senior staff, and I look
forward to working with her on our very ambitious goals for the school.”
Inge Reichenbach, vice president for development, added, “I am delighted
to welcome Betsy back to the Yale community. We are so pleased to have somebody
of her caliber and experience take on the development leadership for the School
of Music.”
