Program seeks to build bridges of religious environmentalism
“Sustainable Community Outreach” and “Inconvenient Ethics:
Using Al Gore in a Faith Context?” are among the workshops that will
be featured in the second annual “Interfaith Solidarity on Global Climate
Change” taking place on Sunday, April 27, 12:30-3 p.m. at Sterling Divinity
Quadrangle, 409 Prospect St. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is jointly organized and sponsored by students at Yale Divinity School
and the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. The purpose is
to build bridges of religious environmentalism between Yale and the faith communities
in the wider New Haven area by providing a festive venue for celebration, education,
networking and public meditation.
Over 250 persons attended the 2007 event, and organizers expect an even larger
turnout this year.
Like last year, there will be live music,
free food from Claire’s Corner Copia, tree planting, workshops, information
sessions, children’s activities and a centering meditation on the role
of faith in the environmental crisis. There will be activities for children
and water bowls for dogs (who must be on a leash).
Lunch will be served 12:30-1:30 p.m. The Interfaith Meditation will take place
1:30-2 p.m. and the workshops will be held 2-3 p.m.
