Leckman honored for contributions in child psychiatry
Dr. James Leckman, the Neison Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry and Pediatrics,
was awarded the Ruane Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Child and Adolescent
Psychiatric Research from NARSAD.
Previously known as the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression,
the organization is a private, not-for-profit public charity that raises funds
for scientific research into the causes, cures, treatments and prevention of
severe psychiatric brain and behavior disorders, such as schizophrenia and depression.
Leckman was cited for organizing “one of the premier clinical and research
training programs in child psychiatry, which will guarantee excellent clinical
research for our next generation.”
Capello is recognized for work in tropical medicine
Dr. Michael Cappello, professor of pediatrics, microbial pathogenesis, and
epidemiology and public health, and director of the World Fellows Program,
is the recipient of the Bailey K. Ashford Medal from the American Society of
Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
The award is given each year “for distinguished work in tropical medicine.” The
medal will be awarded at this year’s annual meeting in Philadelphia on
Nov. 4.
